Integrated Building Systems hosted its eighth annual Earth Day Electronics Recycling Drive on Aug. 28, 2020, to give community members an environmentally responsible way to recycle electronic waste (e-waste), and prevent it from polluting landfills.
The event was a “booming” success, breaking records across the board for number of participants, pounds of e-waste collected, and pounds of paper collected for shredding.
Originally scheduled for April 17, 2020 (close to its namesake date of Earth Day on April 22), the event was postponed due to COVID-19.
But clearly, quarantine cleaning in 2020 yielded extraordinary demand for this event.
E-waste totals
Since our first Earth Day Electronics Recycling Drive in 2013, we’ve collected over 100,000 pounds of e-waste—including computers, phones, TVs, cables, cords, power supplies, gaming systems, and even the old boombox pictured above.

Paper tally
In 2017 we added paper shredding to this annual event. To date, we’ve collected over 19,000 pounds of paperwork, saving 163 trees.
Event partners
Thanks to our event partner and electronics recycler RenTek, most devices are free to recycle, including computers, laptops, keyboards, cell phones, power supplies, cords and cables. Fees were charged for items that require special disposal charges, like TVs and large office copiers.
Royal Document Destruction provided free paper shredding of up to 5 banker boxes per person.
Taquito’s Truck served lunch onsite for the third year in a row, to the delight of the entire Integrated Building Systems’ team, many neighbors, and other event participants.
